Farm Trip

  •   What was a highlight?

A highlight for me on the farm was the sunrise. It might sound very basic, but to me it really meant a lot. The reason it was so special to me is because I really wanted to go for a run and see the sunrise, but the whole week we only had cloudy mornings. On Wednesday, I asked the Lord and told Him that I really wanted to see a sunrise during my run. Then Thursday came, and still no sunrise, but then on Friday morning we went for our run, and I saw it wasn’t as cloudy as the previous mornings, and just as my run ended, the sun started to rise, it was so amazing!

Even though it may not seem like such a big deal, it really meant a lot to me because the Lord answered a desire of my heart. It just reminded me that God really is in the details, and things that are special to me are special to Him.

  • What was a confrontation?

A confrontation for me was when people didn’t do a task given to them wholeheartedly, or when they moaned and complained about the task at hand. It also bothered me when people were given a task, but unnecessarily took a long time to do it. I really had to practise my patience and not say things where it wasn’t my place to speak. I also realised that everyone wasn’t raised the same way and that instead of judging them, I can rather pray for them and cover them with my prayers.

  •   What did you learn (relationally, from a work perspective, cool facts, etc.)

Something I learnt relationally is that Bernice and I are actually very similar in our personalities, and I really enjoyed getting to know her more. I also really connected with Leigh-Ann, which I really enjoyed. The relational aspect on the farm was really amazing, and it was so amazing for me that we can all work together, relax together and have holy conversations.

Something I learnt from a work perspective is that there’s a lot of hard work that goes into one bottle of jam or a pack of apples. I also had a great appreciation in my heart for the people who work on the farm because, even though people don’t always recognise or acknowledge them, they actually make our lives so much easier, for us to just go to the shop and buy a bag of apples or a jar of jam, we don’t always think about everyone that it took to get to us.

A cool fact that I never knew is that you can use Milton to wash dying plants and also spray it in the water. I have no idea why or how it works, but Oom Loutjie told me to do it, so I obeyed.

  •   What was something that happened that you didn’t expect?

I didn’t expect the farm to be so relational. I honestly didn’t even think about the relational aspect; the things I mainly thought about was the work that we were going to do, and that I had to share a room with three other guys. I expected us to work all day, eat, and go to bed, but the relational aspect really surprised me. I’m really grateful for the people I went with and the people with whom I had great conversations. I really enjoyed the people, the farm, and the cinnabons, which Bernice made for us.

I am so grateful for the opportunity that I could go to the farm. I’m grateful for the facilitators, Oom Loutjie and Tannie Zelda, who allowed me to help on the farm, and for all the people who were there with me. I also really enjoyed running in the mornings. I praise the Lord for this wonderful time that I had.

Bible School and Discipleship 101

  •   What are your expectations for Bible school and Discipleship 101?

My expectations for both Bible School and Discipleship 101 are that the Word will really change me, and that I become a doer of the Word, not a hearer only. I believe my relationship with God is going to grow and that the words change how I see things in life. I’m excited about learning things or seeing things more clearly than I ever have before. I also want to make sure that I’m not only doing Bible School because I’m supposed to, but because I want to grow, and it’s about having a deeper walk with God.

  •   Is there something that you specifically want to know more about in the Word of God?

The current things I would like to learn more about are the historical aspects of the Bible. I would like to know who wrote the different books of the Bible, and who composed all the books together. I am very excited to learn more about His Word and to seek and find Him through His Word.

  •   What is one new thing that you have learnt this past week in either Bible school or Discipleship 101?

Here are a few points that I took from Discipleship 101:

  • Spending time in the Word makes you a disciple.
  • If you love others, you’re a disciple.
  • If you’re a disciple, you’re supposed to bear fruit.
  • A fun one I’ve never heard before is B.I.B.L.E – Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth.

Here are a few points from Bible School (Foundations of Faith).

  • I shouldn’t allow my faith to lie dormant; I have to use my faith.
  • Faith is not living by the way I feel.
  • I have to start with honesty, then apply the truth of God’s Word to that honesty.
  • I have to let the harvest come by, keep on speaking the Word.
  • If I’m living with God in His Word, then the answer is around the corner.
  • If I only speak words Jesus would speak, then I will experience life.
  • The way I counteract fear is by rejoicing.

I’m excited to grow in my Faith walk through this course and to trust God more than ever before because He only has the best for me.
